neuropep_statin2

Series of neuropeptides from the Allostatin family, such as the allostatin, helicostatin, drostatin, and also the Bombystatin produced as a polyprotein. The domain is probably better defined as a PATTERN called neuropep_statin: ((1,13)-[FYC]-[ASDGNHL]-F-G-[LVIM]-G-[KR]-R) cleaved after [LVIM] and amidated by the following G providing the amino group. The x(1,13) header gives the specificity of the neuropeptide.

A series of molecular signals is generated as a consequence of their binding to a cell surface receptor, generating different functions depending on the organism where are secreted, like gut motility and negative regulation of hormones. (Matthews, 2004).
